Using snap-together robotics systems, kids will learn the basics of computer programming, acquire key tech terminology, and gain an insight into the potential uses of machinery in modern society.
This robotics course is designed for kids from the ages of 7-14 and will be divided into 10 one-hour units.
In a recent survey carried out by the Office of the Chief Scientist, complex and creative problem-solving were stated amongst the top four skills Australian employers are seeking in potential candidates. The STEMmates robotics course aims to encourage kids to be innovative and creative in the way they approach and solve problems. Through an interactive exercise, kids will be asked to build a sample Chain Reaction Device before troubleshooting and problem solving to improve the device's design.
As well as encouraging kids to develop their individual skills, our robotics course also promotes collaboration between peers. The kids participating in this course will be asked to work in teams to assess and solve problems. This will provide participants with an insight into the kinds of collaborative skills required in the workplace.
Since the kids taking part in this robotics course will be working together in small groups, the course will provide opportunities for participants to assume specific roles and responsibilities within their group. Fundamentally, the course aims to promote a sense of task ownership amongst those participating by giving kids the responsibility to lead their own learning experience and play their own part in achieving their groups’ desired outcome.
With the growing number of global tech and software startups, along with an increased demand for companies to go digital, employers are increasingly seeking tech-savvy workers to fulfill the requirements of the modern workplace. According to government projections, opportunities in scientific and technical fields are expected to rise by up to 20% in the next five years. With this in mind, STEMmates' robotics course aims to provide kids with technical skills such as basic computer programming that are already in high demand in the global job market.
STEMmates is an extra-curricular learning programme that supports Australia’s renewed focus on STEM education. Through our fun and interactive learning courses, we aim to equip kids with fundamental STEM skills whilst introducing them to the modern world of science, technology, engineering and maths.
Our courses cover a range of different STEM topics, from robotics to electromagnetism, and aim to give Australian kids the best chance at succeeding in their STEM education.
