Every child should have access to a specialist who champions the subjects and fundamental principles of STEM. It is why our activity-based learning workshops are run by education professionals with industrial experience who are passionate about education – especially in the STEM fields.
What is STEMmates?
STEMmates is an extracurricular learning program designed to support learning outside the school environment. Our activity-based initiatives are designed to reinforce and support the renewed focus on STEM education.
Each STEMmates session is delivered in a classroom-style setting by a course educator qualified in relevant STEM fields. The length of each course varies depending on the amount of material and objectives to cover. However, all STEMmates sessions incorporate similar activity-based learning techniques.
Our mission is to make learning fun whilst encouraging kids to engage with the fundamental STEM concepts that are gaining increasing importance in modern education.
Although national and international employers are increasingly looking for a workforce with high computer and numeracy skills, Australia is witnessing a decline in the uptake of science and maths-based subjects at secondary school level.
Whilst a serious problem in fulfilling employer demands in future, this decline has already led to Australia’s failure to remain competitive in international maths and science tests.
The pivot towards STEM is vital for both our children and Australia. But is this renewed focus in schools enough to position us as global leaders of tomorrow?
If we want to fulfil future demand, we need to educate students in career fields that will soon dominate the national and international markets.
